Spies that identifies Uterine Fibroid Embolization as a safe and effective treatment option for women suffering from uterine fibroids and recommended that women considering this alternative should have a thorough evaluation with an obstetrician-gynecologist before making the decision. These statements are also supported by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG).
The article begins by describing the case of a 45 year old African American women that is told she needs a hysterectomy due to fibroids, but decides to seek alternative options. It measured fibroid treatment benefits, reviewed major clinical studies, identified the clinical use of the treatment along with potential adverse effects, and ends with the co-author’s clinical recommendations, stating that “Women can and should be confident about uterine fibroid embolization as a treatment option.”
