Q. How much does embolization hurt?
A: Almost all of our patients experience some cramping for a few days after embolization. Patients with large fibroids can experience a low grade fever. Usually gone in a week. Overall, discomfort is very minimal. And compared to surgery like hysterectomy or myomectomy… embolization is a walk in the park.
Q: I had a myomectomy and my fibroids came back. Does embolization keep new fibroids from forming?
A: Fibroid reoccurance after embolization is basically zero. Fibroids can’t grow back because the blood supply that feeds them has been interrupted…permanently.
Q: I have fibroids but have been advised to just leave them…is this good advice?
A: Without an examination, it’s hard for me to say. The general rule is, if they aren’t bothering you and they aren’t growing, there’s no reason to do anything but keep a close eye on the condition. But if you have troubling symptoms or the fibroid is getting larger, it’s time to take action.

Glad you asked! Please visit our Tumerous Fibroids- Cancerous or Benign? blog.
Hope that helps!
I am having all in total 4 fibroid in my uterus and the biggest one is 7cm, is it can be done under embolization treatment ? thank you.
i had embolization 3 days ago. I found this procedure extremely uncomfortable and wonder if this is normal? I found it painful and sometimes felt like my pelvis was on fire! It was also distressing to see the doctors with my blood all over their hands and down their fronts. After 2 hours my blood pressure dropped dramatically and the doctors said they were having difficulty doing the 2nd part of the procedure, they had the wrong angle. They accomplished only 20% of what was needed and I have to go through it again in the near future. Is this typical? Wouldn’t it be kinder to put women to sleep during this? I found it so depressing!
Hello,
Although there is always a risk when engaging in any type of medical procedure, there is quite a low risk for the embolization procedure. Nonetheless, regarding your question as to whether this scenario is common, it does NOT usually happpen to UAE patients, but there is always a slim chance. It just so happens that, for whatever reason, your physician must have run into some difficulty while conducting the procedure.
Also, in terms of the symptoms you are witnessing (ie: burning pelvis dropped blood pressure), we would highly suggest that you call your physician and notify him/her about what you are experiencing. Granted the procedure, as you say, was only approximately 20% accomplished, the symptoms you are describing are ones that should be taken note of and acted on promptly.
Goodluck and please feel free to give the Fibroid Treatment Collective a call at 866-362-6463 for additional questions or concerns! Thank you!
Good Morning.
Doctor Mclucas, would you please take some minutes of your busy time to please read the message written by Ms. Andrea Mitchells dated on April 14, 2011, give an advise to the future candidates to embolization, please give her and us a detailed explanation about what is happening her and what are the risks that we may face, if we choose an embolization for us. Thanks Sofia
Thank you Sofia, I think the doctor read it like I experienced those awful things AFTER the procedure, not during it. I was hoping she would reply to you, as I have to go through it again next Friday and am wondering if it is worth it or not!
