Directly after the Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE) procedure, the fibroids will begin to shrink and die over time. Most fibroids will shrink primarily in the first six months, but they can sometimes continue to shrink for up to one year. Although the fibroids may never completely go away, they often become small enough to relieve most symptoms such as heavy bleeding, pressure, frequent urination and pain.
Additionally, because the procedure is less invasive than surgery, the recovery time associated with this procedure is much shorter than hysterectomy or myomectomy. Most women are able to go back to work within a few days, and are completely recovered in about a week. Also, patients are able to resume sex and other normal activities in about a week. Recovery from abdominal hysterectomy or myomectomy, on the other hand, can take up to six weeks or more.

However, if you are looking to undergo the procedure particularly through the Fibroid Treatment Collective, please give us a call at 866-362-6463 or email us at patientcoordinator@fibroids.com.
